Veratox for Aflatoxin M1 is a competitive enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) that allows the user to obtain exact concentrations of aflatoxin M1 in dairy products in parts per trillion (ppt). Free aflatoxin M1 in the samples and controls is added to microwells that have been coated with anti-aflatoxin M1 monoclonal antibody. A wash step will remove any unbound aflatoxin.
During a second incubation, an aflatoxin-HRP conjugate will bind to the remaining free binding site on the antibody. After a wash step, substrate is added and allowed to react with the bound conjugate to produce blue color. More blue color means less aflatoxin M1. The test is read in a microwell reader to yield optical densities. The optical densities of the controls form the standard curve, and the sample optical densities are plotted against the curve to calculate the exact concentration of aflatoxin M1.
