Using Innovative Artificial Intelligence Technology

Save Time and Money

Save time and get an objective quality analysis using single-particle image analysis with a unique mirror design for excellent accuracy

Cgrain Value™ is an image analysis tool developed to analyze grain quality. The device is used both for visual analysis such as foreign grain and foreign seeds, as well as for analysis of damaged grains as well as thousand grain weight and sieving processes.

The manual method for analyzing physical grain quality is very subjective, time consuming, requires trained personnel as well as tiring for neck, shoulders and wrists. Cgrain Value™ offers the next standard in grain quality analysis. The lens is easy to use and time-saving, and can replace both manual grading and sifting and counting.

Applications
Quality analysis of barley, wheat, rye, oats and groats.

Users
Cgrain Value™ has a wide range of applications. Useful for all grain related work.
The device is used by:
• Mills
• Malt houses
• Grain traders
• Grain laboratories
• Gluten-free oat producers
• Seed growers
• Grain researchers

Analyzes
Cgrain Value™ can simultaneously determine a number of quality parameters, for example:
• Foreign grain
• Foreign seeds
• Foreign matter
• Ergot
• Damaged, broken, undersized, peeled grains, etc.
• Screening (size distribution)
• TGW (weight of thousand grains)

Features and Benefits
• Completely objective analysis with good repeatability
• Improved work environment
• Robust design for use in dusty environments
• Can replace many different stages in quality analysis
• Networked for support and calibrations

Each grain is imaged from three angles
Cgrain Value™ uses a unique, patented mirror design that presents three views of each grain. This allows grains to be accurately measured and virtually the entire surface to be inspected for defects, providing a high detection rate and good repeatability regardless of grain orientation.

Much more objective than
manual analysis There is a high degree of subjectivity when manually analyzing visual quality features. Regardless of the method descriptions, it is very difficult to consistently measure some defects of interest to grain users. This can vary depending on training as well as permission given for different perceptions of color or how much time to devote to analyzing a sample. Results will be more consistent when using the Cgrain Value, and the instrument will analyze each grain in the same manner at a rate of 8-12 grains per second.

Foreign grain detection in gluten-free oat production For
some users, foreign grain contamination can be a significant quality defect. For example, Cgrain Value is used to detect foreign grains in gluten-free oat production. While the device evaluates each grain similarly, the detection rate is high and the device is used to ensure product quality in a short run time.

Damaged grains in malting barley
Cgrain has calibrated for several different types of damage. For example, pink fusarium or cracked, undersized and peeled barley. Some examples of these defects are shown below with images from the Cgrain Value. Due to the mirrors in the viewing area, each grain is viewed from three angles.

More data than manual analysis
Cgrain Value™ also measures size and color that manual visual inspection cannot analyze. Below are examples of some of the statistics presented in Cgrain Value™. Measurements can be presented as mean and standard deviation or as scatter diagrams. These data may be of extra interest to seed growers or grain scientists.

Sieving and size measurements Perforated sieves are used in the standard method for size measurement
. The technique is limited and only documents a portion of the sample, depending on the sieve sizes chosen. In this way, only the thinnest part of the seed is measured.

Results and networking
Results are easily presented on the touch screen and images can be viewed on an external monitor. Results can be printed over a network connection or transferred to internal laboratory data systems.

Easy Operation

1. The sample is poured into the Cgrain Value™ and the analysis is started on the internal touchscreen. A barcode scanner and/or a balance can be used to enter reference information.

2. The grain sample is fed through the device using a vibrating bowl that separates the grains. Cgrain Value™ documents grains as they slide in a patented mirror design. Advanced image analysis is then used to classify the sample and detect errors.

3. The sample that has not been damaged during the analysis is collected at the end of the analysis.

4. Results are displayed on the device's touchscreen.

5. Certain images can be selected and viewed on the external display and reclassified if desired.

6. Results are displayed on the device's touchscreen. Images can be viewed on the external display for further inspection and reclassification possibility. Results can be printed or exported to local LIMS.
