The test utilizes highly specific antibodies to detect almond, hazelnut, pecan, walnut, cashew and/or pistachio proteins. These treenuts can be detected from various surfaces using the provided environmental swabs or from rinses.
Utilizing the environmental swabs supplied, levels of 5 µg/100 cm2 of walnut extract, 20 µg/100 cm2 of hazelnut or cashew extracts, 30 µg/100 cm2 oil-roasted almond extract and 50 µg/100 cm2 pecan or pistachio extracts can be detected from Teflon surfaces. For further information on validated surfaces, please see the Reveal for Multi-Treenut validation report.
When analyzing rinses, almond, hazelnut, pecan, walnut, cashew and/or pistachio residues are detectable at a level of 5–10 ppm. The presence of cleaners and sanitizers can affect the limit of detection (LOD) in rinses.
